Art is not a common profession and often not a socially acceptable area of study in cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year. Even rarer are artists who choose contemporary art as a livelihood. Exhibiting contemporary art during a traditional holiday brings awareness to practising artists who have roots in tradition yet still move forward in the contemporary realm, while recognising Ireland as their home. During a time of cultural exchange and celebration in Dublin, the Auspicious Eight Exhibition aims to enlighten attendees of the Dublin Lunar New Years festivities with a selection of artists who have connections to the Lunar New Year and are active contributors to Irish visual arts.
